Why should your company consider the Dual Model?
October 5, 2021
"The Dual Model is a triple win-win for companies, for students and for society in general."
The first thing you should know is that the Dual Model has its origin in Germany. As mentioned on the official site deutschland.de "For decades, Germany has stood out for its dual vocational training system. Apprentices acquire practical skills in the company and parallel theoretical knowledge in a vocational school. Vocational training has proven its effectiveness in combating youth unemployment and the shortage of qualified personnel, and is therefore seen as a model of success in other countries as well."
Dual Training has been replicated little by little in different countries due to its excellent results, among them Mexico, who in 2013 started with the pilot plan. This model is known by the acronym MMFD (Mexican Model of Dual Training), retaking the essential elements of the German Model, adapted to the national reality. Like the original model, its main virtue is to open the possibility for the student to combine learning in the classroom with practice in the reality of the workplace. Nuevo León was one of the pioneer states, with CAINTRA as the Operating Agency, where more than 80 companies have benefited from it, providing training spaces for more than 1,000 students.
The MMFD represents a solution to personnel turnover, unskilled labor and unemployment. This program allows the industry to attract, develop and retain young Mexican talent, highly trained, with increasingly specialized profiles and with the indispensable knowledge to join the labor market.
The Model has a high degree of effectiveness, since, according to the excellent results of the participating companies, through this program, talent with specific skills and with an attachment to the organizational culture is obtained.
Daniel Ballesteros, General Director of G+G Professional Carbide Tools, a CAINTRA partner company, is a testimony of the above, stating: "The level of understanding and commitment generated from the person (MMFD user) to the organization, generates greater results".
Companies that provide the opportunity to young people are themselves creating a hotbed of talent within their organization, developing their future technical collaborators through the Dual Model. The benefit for the company is tangible: "Definitely (the investment in the MMFD service) is profitable, since it results in more committed and better prepared people," says Ballesteros of G+G Professional Carbide Tools.
An outstanding fact is the high rate of MMFD students who, at the end of their training, are hired by the training company on a permanent basis. According to data from CAINTRA, the most important operator of the dual model in Mexico, more than 60% of the students are retained in the work centers where they completed their training.
It is essential that companies continue to provide training opportunities for students, where they will have the opportunity to create and develop a "portfolio" of qualified future collaborators, which implies considerable savings in the costs of selecting external workers and in the time it takes for collaborators to adapt to their jobs.
CAINTRA Nuevo León promotes this service among its affiliated companies, since the program is a triple win-win for companies, students and society in general.
Young people represent the promise of positive change in the future, it is in the hands of the Industry to make this change possible.
