We seek to reduce traffic on highways in the northern part of the MMA.
June 13, 2023
At the request of the comments and complaints of the industrialists that make up the North Council of CAINTRA Nuevo Leon, regarding the excessive traffic on the highways to Laredo, Colombia and Monclova when entering the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey, the Chamber has initiated a series of meetings with authorities of the three levels of government involved in the mobility of people and goods.
As a first approach, a delegation of businessmen from the North Council, headed by José Antonio González, President of this CAINTRA group, and Jesús Guzmán, President of the Transportation Commission, met with the Delegate of the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation in Nuevo León, Blanca Aburto, with the State Coordinator of the National Guard in the state, as well as the Mayor of Escobedo, Andrés Mijes, to expose the problems and risks associated with the increase of traffic on highways in the northern zone of the Monterrey Metropolitan Area.
At the meeting, it was agreed with the SICT delegate that inspections will be carried out on the stretches under federal jurisdiction to determine their inclusion in their program of conflictive points and to allocate a budget for their resolution. In the following weeks, the Northern Council delegation will meet again with the authority to follow up on the issue.
On the other hand, the National Guard Coordinator in Nuevo Leon was informed about the security situation on the highways and the need for the presence of elements of this institution. It was agreed to maintain greater communication with the National Guard for reporting, as well as to increase the presence at the points of greatest traffic.
In a meeting with the Mayor of Escobedo, Andrés Mijes Llovera, the problems were discussed and in response the Mayor commented on the project that is already underway to alleviate traffic in the area of the Libramiento Noreste, the Highway to Monclova and the Highway to Colombia, which is known as the "northern triangle". He detailed that it is a project that is being worked on jointly with the State Government, with an investment of 300 million pesos that will imply a continuous flow and improvements to the area to increase the speed of traffic.
In the coming weeks, CAINTRA will meet with more municipal and state authorities involved in these road sections to raise concerns and problems, seeking to reach a permanent solution.
