The indicators of the CAINTRA Economic Expectations Survey showed a partial improvement during August. While five of the nine indicators were in a contraction phase, the majority recorded increases compared to the previous month.

In particular, the “new orders” increased by 0.80 points, to 48.98, and remained below the expansion threshold. For its part, the “physical volume of production” advanced to 50.55 points and returned to the expansion phase.

The “usable capacity” increased to 48.92 points, although it continued to contract. In contrast, the “inventories” decreased to 49.41 points and entered a contraction phase, while the “number of workers” exceeded the expansion threshold with 50.45 points.

In terms of foreign trade, exports recovered from the decline recorded in July and increased by 1.33 points. At the same time, imports reached their highest value since 2024. However, both indicators remained in a contractionary phase.

As for the price indicators, the “commodity price” declined to 58.04 points, prolonging the moderation observed in recent months. For its part, the “price of its products” remained virtually unchanged and stood at 51.98 points. Both indicators continued to be in an expansionary phase.

Productive investment lost momentum during August. 24% of the companies indicated that they allocated resources to machinery, equipment, or construction, with the result that the indicator returned to levels close to those recorded during the first half of the year.

A weak economic activity was again the factor that most hampered companies’ performance, with 41%. It is followed by lower external demand, with 35% mentions. In third place, companies listed the political landscape, with 33%.

Finally, it highlights that “exchange rate volatility” has again ranked among the top obstacles for the first time since April 2025.
