Nuevo León and Mexican industry face their greatest challenge
April 3, 2020
Nuevo León's industry today faces a challenge that is unprecedented in the country's recent history. Although estimates of the economic downturn vary widely, they reflect that we will face complicated months in the face of lower global demand for products and inputs.
Businesses in the state will take the necessary steps, often difficult and consequential, to withstand the contingency and emerge stronger from it. For example, to help reduce physical interactions between people and comply with federal regulations, many businesses have had to scale back operations and even close for a month. Unfortunately, a significant number of companies will see their growth, investments and hiring halted, while others will not be able to withstand and will have to exit the market.
As Nuevo Leon's industrial sector, we emphasize that there will be empathy and social attachment, the industry is part of and owes the state's community. Companies in Nuevo Leon are characterized by their sense of social responsibility and focus on the community, therefore, rest assured that the industrial sector will do everything possible to contribute as much as possible to maintain the health, social welfare and economic dynamics in its essential activities to face the pandemic with all the measures to protect employees.
We recognize the efforts and support that various authorities, mainly the state and some municipalities, have made to provide companies with tax incentives, resources and a lower regulatory burden.
Currently, the business sector has the commitment to comply with its obligations, as it is the support for close to 21 million formal workers and their families in Mexico. However, we require the collaboration of the Federal Government to face this crisis; in view of this, we call on the executive to include in his message this Sunday, which will be the specific support to preserve the sources of employment of SMEs in the country; reiterating that the smaller the size of the company, the greater the backing and support required from the federal executive.
This contingency will be solved by all of us; society, companies and government will work together to get out of these complex moments as soon as possible and with the least possible impact.
